Mengding, Gengma County
Families in Mangtuan still make white paper from paper-mulberry bark entirely by hand: soaking and steaming the bark, pounding it to pulp, then setting sheets to dry on wooden frames in the sun. The craft has been on China's national intangible heritage list since 2006, and Chinese sources call it a living fossil of early papermaking.
