The old trees of Bingdao, in the hills above Mengku town, produce some of the most expensive pu'er in China. In the spring picking season, roughly March and April, tea families welcome visitors to pick, wither and pan-fire leaves, and Bingdao Lake (冰岛湖), a reservoir nearby, makes a pretty stop. Outside spring it is a quiet farming village.
