The plane-tree walk: East Pagoda to Xunjin Street
Old center, Kunming
This is Kunming's answer to Shanghai's leafy old streets. Start at the 9th-century East and West Pagodas, browse the independent bookshops on Shulin Street, then walk yellow-walled Jingde Lane, café-lined Tiepi Lane and the Republican-era houses under the plane trees of Xunjin Street. The whole route is about 2 km.
What locals sayLocals say it shows a slower, more lived-in Kunming than the lake, especially with sun filtering through the plane trees.
