Water-Splashing Festival in mid-April: book early, bag your phone
Jinghong
The Dai New Year, around April 13–15, brings dragon-boat races on the Lancang, temple offerings and a citywide water fight. Getting soaked counts as a blessing, so expect it from strangers, but don't splash monks, the elderly or anyone clearly not playing.
