Tropical Botanical Garden in Menglun: arrive at opening, ride the carts
Menglun, about 1.5 h from Jinghong
Run by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the garden spreads over a river bend in Menglun and easily fills a day: rainforest trails, giant figs, palm collections and lily ponds. Get there at opening, while it's cool, and use the electric carts between sections.
