MU Coffee above Xiaowan: wait for the 2–5 pm light

Xiaowan village, Chengjiang

This hillside café looks out over a near-180-degree sweep of the lake, with an infinity pool, cliff-edge seats and tents set up as photo spots. Come mid-afternoon, when the light on the water is best, and stay for sunset. In the evening it switches to barbecue and cocktails, with occasional live music.

What locals sayThe view gets unanimous praise; opinions split on paying extra just to use the photo decks.
