Show this to your driverFlower Face Festival at Puzhehei: black ash on your face for luck
Puzhehei, Qiubei county
Around the Yi Torch Festival, which falls between mid-July and mid-August, Qiubei holds the Flower Face Festival. People smear each other's faces with black ash from burned fragrant-rice straw, and the blacker your face, the more luck you're wished. Expect torch-lit celebrations, song-and-dance shows and a food fair, with events centered on the Puzhehei scenic area.
What locals sayTravelers describe it as Puzhehei at its liveliest, and the hardest week of the year to find a room.
