Restaurants on Shuhe's main lanes charge scenic-area prices, from around ¥30 a dish. Walk a few lanes back to a local diner and order Naxi stir-fried pork and stir-fried haicaihua, the crisp flower stems of a water plant that grows only in clean lakes.
What locals sayThe same dishes cost noticeably less once you step out of the tourist streets, and the haicaihua is the thing to try.
