Kunming Station to Heijing
One of Yunnan's subsidized 'slow trains' for villages on the old Chengdu–Kunming line leaves Kunming Station (昆明站, not Kunming South) at around 6:20–6:30 a.m. and reaches Heijing about two and a half hours later, winding along the Longchuan River gorge. The return train leaves Heijing around 4:20 p.m., which gives you a full day in town.
